    After qualifying from Westminster Hospital Medical School in 1976 I undertook most of my surgical training in the hospitals of the South West Thames region rotating with St George's. I spent two years in the Biomedical Engineering Department of Kings College Hospital culminating in the award of the MS degree from the University of London in 1985. I was appointed as a Consultant General Surgeon with an interest in Vascular Surgery at Medway Maritime Hospital and have worked here since April 1990. 

    I am the lead clinician and patient safety lead for general surgery. I have been involved in teaching and training nurses, undergraduate and post graduate medical staff. I am a senior examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons and have examined and supervised examinations both in this country and abroad. I am chairman of the intercollegiate group that is developing and running the new OSCE version of the MRCS examination.
