Facilities for inpatients

In additional to our general facilities, the following services are available to inpatients.

Trolley service

The League of Friends has a trolley service which visits the wards once a day. The trolley service sells a range of items including newspapers.

Postal service

Post is delivered to and collected from the wards each day. Please ask friends and relatives to address mail clearly giving your full name and the name of your ward. Stamps are available from the Friends’ shop and the trolley service. There is a post box next to the main entrance to the hospital.

Shops and restaurants

There is a restaurant and coffee shop located on level 1, along with a selection of shops around the hospital run by the Medway League of Friends. Find out locations and opening times here.

Hospital radio

Medway Hospital Radio is a voluntary organisation providing a service from 4pm to midnight on weekdays and midday to midnight at weekends. If you want a request played, you can ring the twenty-four hour hotline on 01634 406865.

Hospital chapel

The hospital chapel, on the ground floor opposite Wakeley Ward, is open from 8am to 8pm each day. From 8pm to 8am, a key to the chapel is available from Wakeley Ward. The chapel is a place of quiet and meditation for all patients, visitors and staff, whatever their religion.

Evening worship is held in the chapel every Sunday at 7.30pm. A short service of holy communion follows at 8pm for those who wish to stay.

Muslim prayers are held every Friday from 1pm to 2pm.

If you would like a chaplain to visit you for any reason, please ask the ward manager to arrange this or ring the chaplain on x3816.

Wheelchairs for attending the chapel

Wheelchair assistance is available for patients wishing to attend services. Please leave a message on x3816 at least half an hour before the service.
