Essential construction works this weekend

Date: 09 August 2016

Essential construction works will take place at Medway Maritime Hospital this weekend (Saturday, 13 August and Sunday, 14 August). These are the last in a series of recent works to help improve the environment and overall experience for patients, visitors and staff.

Contractors will begin resurfacing the road that runs between the roundabout next to patient and visitor car park two and the Sunderland Day Case Unit on Saturday at 7.00am.

Car park two will remain closed for the entire weekend, while these works are carried out. Patient and visitor car park one will remain open as usual, as will staff car park C.

The main perimeter road between residences 8 and 13 will not be accessible to traffic during the weekend. The Marlborough Road entrance will also be closed to the public and staff on Saturday and Sunday between 7.00am and 5.00pm. This entrance will be strictly open to essential hospital deliveries on Saturday up until 10.30am, but will be closed to all traffic on Sunday. The Trust will be deploying staff at this entrance to help redirect traffic.

As with the previous resurfacing works, the main access road that runs outside the emergency department will operate on a two-way basis. This means that emergency vehicles will exit the site via the Windmill Road entrance. The Trust will also be deploying security staff at this entrance to help manage traffic flow around the site.

Please be advised there will be heavy industrial machinery on site from Friday evening. The contractors will display signage offering clear directions on where patients, staff and visitors should park.

Medway Maritime Hospital would like to apologise for any inconvenience that has been caused as a result of these essential works.
