Local school provides inspiration to Macmillan patients

Date: 29 July 2016

A local school in Medway has presented a specially-designed piece of artwork to Medway Maritime Hospital.

Greenvale Infant and Nursing School in Chatham recently presented the hand-printed canvas to nursing staff at the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit to provide inspiration to patients and their families.

The artwork carries the message: stay strong, there’s always a rainbow after every storm – a clear message of hope and inspiration to patients who receive treatment under the care of the unit.

Greenvale pupils, Porche Lewis & Leah Holmes, presented the canvas to Kerry Holmes, Acting Senior Sister on the Galton Day Unit. Kerry said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the artwork that Greenvale School has produced and presented to us.

“As you can imagine, the patients we often see can be feeling quite low in themselves and in need of some inspiration. We’ve made sure their work has taken pride of place in our main waiting room. It will hopefully cheer up some of those patients who are going through a tough time.”

Maxine Debonnaire, Family Liaison Officer at Greenvale Infant and Nursing School, said: “This was a really rewarding project for the children to have been involved in. They also had a lot of fun too. We hope the patients and their families take some encouragement from the design.”
