An army of superheroes descended on The Great Lines Heritage Park in Gillingham on Sunday (23 June) to take part in Medway’s Hospital Heroes 5k Run.

175 people ran The Medway Hospital Charity’s first fun run, and thanks to their efforts, more than £2,000 has been raised to support projects that fall outside of the NHS budget.

Cheryl Jones, Fundraising Officer for The Medway Hospital Charity, said:

“The atmosphere was fantastic; full of fun and laughter. A wide range of superheroes attended including: Spiderman, Mr Incredible, Elastigirl, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Bat Girl, Green Lantern, Harley Quinn, Deadpool, Super Girl, Ultron, The Punisher and Bananaman. Everyone had a great time and we’re looking forward to doing it all over again next year.”

Fittingly, Captain America, the first Avenger, aka Ian Knight, charged through the finishing line first. Medway NHS Foundation Trust’s Chief Executive, James Devine, raced to sixth place.

Nelson Ward’s Kimberly Ponman won the best dressed adult prize. Not only was her costume memorable, the judges decided she could come to the rescue as she was super speedy, being the first female runner to finish!

The best dressed children’s prize was shared between Harley Quinn, (Ocean Whiffin) and Super Girl (Eleanor Oakley), and was presented to the youngsters on the day.

The Medway Hospital Charity would like to thank the runners and everyone who helped on the day including: staff, volunteers, marshals and MP Rehman Chishti and Cllr Nusrat Ahmed, for cheering our runners on.

Thanks also to our sponsors and supporters; MC Personnel, Medway Council, Medway Norse, Asda Chatham, Asda Rotary, Medway Park, Nuffield Health, Mr Softee, Glitter Faces, A Down Catering, Wild Balloons, Hospital Radio Medway, Nandos and The Entertainer, Chatham.
