Supporting patients after COVID-19

Food packs

For many of our patients, the impact of COVID-19 can continue long after they have left hospital; that’s why at Medway Foundation NHS Trust we are developing a new food package scheme for the most vulnerable.

The food packages will include some essentials, such as bread, milk and soup, so that our patients don’t have to worry about shopping when they return home and can focus on their recovery.

Amelia Lythgoe, Clinical Lead Dietitian commented:

“We are really proud to be launching these food packages for our patients who have been discharged following their recovery from COVID-19. They are hugely needed for those that live alone or live with relatives who now have to self-isolate and cannot get to the shops for basic provisions.”

James Devine, Chief Executive of the Medway NHS Foundation Trust said:

“Our staff are working incredibly hard to treat those with COVID-19, and thanks to their dedication, hard work and professionalism we have seen nearly 150 patients recover and return to their homes.

“Our duty of care doesn’t end when they leave the hospital though, and these food packages will make all of the difference to those who cannot make it to the shops when they return home.

“I would like to thank our community for their support and Simon Clark, Head of Retail and his team for working tirelessly to ensure that our patients leave hospital with these food packages.

The food packages are being funded through generous donations from our community. If you would like to donate, please visit www.justgiving.com/campaign/yournhsneedsyou
